Question Is there a Relation to when to ID items and the type unlocked?

Well, on saveral occasions, I have waited 2 days or so and always ID'ing it in the last mission areas, I have gotten superb rares. I rarely ID on the spot unless Its an Item I deem not very good and dont care the results.

I do however have had much greater fortune when I ID in a town, when I ID while in the map, I tend to get lousy items.

Now my Q to you is that is this all mentality based or is there real substance to this. Post experiences here and we can reach a conclusion. IMHO, it may be mainly superstition, however there seems to be some validity judging by my results, so I'd like to hear others.

I don't know the answer but you peaked my interest. I'm going to try id just in town for a set amount of time, then just id in the field and compare.

Yep, an interesting hypothesis. I almost NEVER identify things "out in the field". PUG players are always saying stuff like, "What is that, dood? What'd you get?" They always wait until I get back to town. However, now that you've tossed this out there, I'll give it a test or two and see what happens.

Actually, that's one that AN will probably answer. Find out who's got Fansite #52 and get it slipped in. =)

"When an unidentified item is dropped, is it's identity determined when the mob was spawned, when it was dropped, when it was identified, or some other time?"

I don't know if this applies to the current question, but:

One time I got a rare, and went back to town to ID it. I Id'd it, and a couple minutes later the game crashed for some reason.

I log back in, and I am still located in town but the rare is currently unid'd as the ID must not have registered. So I identify it again, and it is the exact same thing...so, most likely, at least once I got into town it would always be the same thing.

I would like to test that "crap ID in the field" hypothesis though

In this game you don't need to ID something for it to be active. You can actually deduce what mods are on the item before iding it. The most obvious is the "precious" mod. You don't need to id it for the item to sell for more at a merchant.

You can swing an unIDed weapon and see what it does. If it has a health degen effect, that will be active even prior to identifying it.

In most games prior to this, IDing was necessary to use an item. Here it's not.

Thats fine and all, but how do you find whether it does shock/ebon/ice damage unless you specifically target enemies or if the mods are sundering/furious when it only occurs 10% of the time? Still I agree, it might be a set thing, but still, people are getting better results by id'ing at a set time. I think we will need more test for this.

Ahhh, man oh man, still, I was mad yesterdy when I ended up w/ a crappy golds, seriously, the anti PvE scenario from the devs is getting ludicrous, they might as well just cancel pve, yet their biggest push for PvP has very ****ty character creation. You are stuck w/ one weapon skin and a choice of the non ascended armor sets... -_- whats the incentive here...
